Hakurei Turnips, often hailed as salad turnips, boast a smooth, round shape with a crisp, snowy-white interior. Their delicate skin ranges from a pure white to a pale green around the top where it peaks above the soil. These tender root vegetables are known for their sweetness and mild flavor that sets them apart from their more pungent turnip counterparts. They are small to medium in size, perfect for raw snacking, quick pickling, or adding a juicy crunch to salads. Hakurei Turnips can also be roasted, steamed, or sautéed to bring out their natural sugars, resulting in a caramelized exterior and a buttery, mouthwatering bite. They may be served alongside their own green tops, which have a flavor similar to mustard greens and can be cooked like kale or collards for a nutritious complement to the root.

About the Producer
Josh and Jess Plymale operate their 4 acre farm southwest of Atlanta with a no-till methodology. Though this strategy requires a large amount of extra physical labor, it pays off in very healthy soil that will yield a much greater return over the years. The husband and wife team also specializes in micro-green production, allowing them to maximize their production in a relatively small space. Explore >
